PORTER STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF SUPREME COURT CHIEF JUSTICE WILLIAM REHNQUIST
September 4, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Third District Congressman Jon Porter issued the following statement today in response to Chief Justice William Rehnquist's death after a battle with thyroid cancer:

"Yesterday, America lost a devoted public servant with the passing of Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. As a member of our nation's highest court for over thirty-three years, Justice Rehnquist cemented his reputation as a fair, honest and brilliant legal mind. Since being named Chief Justice in 1986, he admirably led the court through numerous high-profile cases, all the while maintaining the same sense of decorum and dedication to interpreting and upholding the law. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as they mourn their loss."
