Garrett Leads Virginia Delegation in Condemning Hate Groups

Today, Congressman Tom Garrett, who represents Virginia's Fifth District including the city of Charlottesville, introduced a House Joint Resolution that mirrors legislation introduced in the Senate condemning hate groups.

On August 12, 2017, leaders of domestic hate organizations clashed in Charlottesville following a white nationalist rally. By days' end, three people lost their lives.

This resolution honors the life of Heather Heyer and the lives of Lt. H. Jay Cullen and Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates of the Virginia State Police, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Upon introducing this resolution alongside all members of the Virginia delegation, Rep. Tom Garrett (VA-05) issued the following statement:

"While the President and the entire Virginia delegation has vociferously condemned the hateful actions of that day as well as those who perpetrated them, this Joint Resolution allows us to join, legislative and executive, Republican and Democrat, in doing so officially and on the record."

The entire Virginia delegation has signed on to this bipartisan legislation.
