July 27, 2005-Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) rallies in support of H.R. 3132, the "Children's Safety Act of 2005," of which he is a co-sponsor. Yesterday, Franks stood alongside John Walsh from America's Most Wanted, Nancy Grace from Court-TV, Mark Lunsford, and other child and crime victims in support of the legislation which is designed to protect children from sex offenders.

"With increasing instances of child abductions and sex crimes, it is painfully clear that the 'Children's Safety Act of 2005' is necessary. It is apparent that our current protections do not suffice in keeping these monsters away from America's children," said Franks. "It is our historic duty as lawmakers to protect the innocent from harm, and I intend to do everything that I possibly can to see that we accomplish that."

The "Children's Safety Act of 2005" continues to gain steam in the legislative process and even today it was reported out of committee for possible consideration by the full U.S. House of Representatives.

"I am encouraged by today's mark-up of the 'Children's Safety Act of 2005' in the Judiciary Committee. Now that this critical piece of legislation is in the hands of leadership, it means we are one step closer to better protecting the innocent young children in our communities," Franks said.

The Children's Safety Act of 2005 is a bipartisan, comprehensive bill that improves sex offender registration and notification programs, requires monthly in-person verification of sex offenders, requires states to notify each other when a sex offender moves from one to another, increases criminal penalties against child sexual predators, deters violent crimes against and sexual exploitation of children, and many other much needed protections.
