American, Russian Agriculture Legislators Compare Farming

Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) met Monday morning in Moscow with Mr. Gennadiy Gorbunov, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Agrarian and Food Policy and other members of the Federation Council. The Federation Council is the legislative counterpart to the United States Senate. Senators Pat Roberts, Richard Burr and Representative Tom Latham accompanied Chairman Chambliss.

"I was most impressed with our Russian colleagues and it was an extremely productive exchange. We discussed issues of importance to both our countries and realized that farmers we represent, while separated by a great distance, have very similar concerns," said Chairman Chambliss. "Our discussion will form the basis of a continuing dialogue as the Russian Parliament begins the long process of writing their first farm bill. I look forward to hosting Mr. Gorbunov in the United States very soon and can say with great sincerity that I leave Russia not only with a better understanding of the unique relationship between our two great countries, but Julianne and I depart having made new friends."
