Luján Statement on Passage of Russia Sanctions Bill by House and Senate

Statement

Date: July 26, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) today released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted 419-3 late last night to approve legislation sanctioning Russia, Iran and North Korea. A similar bill passed the Senate 98-2 earlier this week:

"The House and the Senate have separately passed legislation to expand sanctions against Russia by overwhelming margins. President Trump may continue to hedge on Russia's hacking last year, but there should be no mistaking Congressional intent --this is a clear message that there must be consequences for meddling in our democratic process."

"I hope that when the bill goes to the President, he will take seriously the threat posed by a long-time adversary of our nation, and act accordingly by signing these sanctions into law."
