Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walz (MN-01) released this statement following President Trump's Monday signing of S.J. Res. 34, a Congressional Review Act bill overturning Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules which would have required internet service providers to receive permission from consumers before using their personal data:

"The right to privacy is a hallmark of our democracy. When we sign up with an internet service provider and gain the ability to stay connected with friends and family, surf personal interests, and stream our favorite TV shows, we aren't consenting to give up our right to privacy.

"The power of the internet is ever-evolving, but when it comes to matters of privacy, we should always err on the side of the consumer. By opening the door to wide-spread invasion of online privacy, this law is a big step in the wrong direction for our nation. Moving forward, I will do everything in my power to restore folks' internet privacy rights."
