Press Release

Date: Oct. 21, 2016
Location: Eatonville, FL

Distinguished members of the Congressional Black Caucus traveled to Florida to campaign with Congressional Candidate Val Demings last week. The purpose of their visit was to meet with voters, and talk about the importance of getting out the vote for all Democrats, especially Hillary Clinton and Chief Demings.
Representative Al Green (TX), Representative Yvette Clarke (NY), Representative Joyce Beatty (OH), and Representative Donald Payne (NJ) attended a Town Hall in the Historic Town of Eatonville that was hosted by Val Demings campaign. Over 30 community members were in attendance for the discussion, which ranged from education, small business development, to the current state of this election.

"This is how we get things accomplished, by talking to you, the people in the district, and learning what is going on in the district," Rep. Joyce Beatty told the crowd. "We can't do it alone, and Chief Demings will need your help when she gets elected."

The conversation started with talk of the Presidential Race, and the importance of getting involved to get the vote out for Hillary Clinton.

"We're all on the ballot, every person here, but we're here to let people know we're supporting Chief Demings, to get the vote out," said Representative Donald Payne. "Florida is going to be very crucial in the election, so we feel as incumbents we need to come down here to support the candidates that will be helpful."

"We have to elect Hillary Clinton, if we don't I'm not sure that we will ever get another person who is willing to take on all of these great challenges we have, and do it with the degree of fervor that she has, I thank God for her," said Rep. Al Green.

The town hall was a part of a listening tour of town halls Chief Demings campaign is hosting called "Lift Every Voice". She is hosting a total of six town halls before the election on November 8th.

Before the town hall the CBC members visited the Pulse Memorial to pay tribute to the victims.
