Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, released the followed statement as the state of Ohio announced it is taking steps toward suspending business with Wells Fargo.

"Wells Fargo cheated customers and until it lays out concrete steps to make things right, it doesn't deserve the State of Ohio's business," Brown said.

As the top Democrat on the Banking Committee, Brown has been a leader in Senate efforts to hold the bank accountable. When Wells Fargo refused Brown's call to stop using the practice of forced arbitration to prevent defrauded customers from having their day in court, Brown announced plans to introduce legation that would give Wells Fargo customers back their rights to pursue legal action.

Brown also led Senators in pressing Wells Fargo to answer more than 50 questions about how long the fraud went on and how Wells Fargo plans to make customers whole. More than three weeks after the first Congressional hearing, Wells Fargo executives have yet to submit answers to the Senate Banking Committee.
