Issue Position

Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) has endorsed Speaker Kurt Daudt in the House District 31A race. In a letter, MCCL President Leo F. LaLonde wrote:

"Speaker Daudt has maintained a strong pro-life voting record. He believes in the inherent value of human life, from conception to natural death, and his 100% pro-life voting record reflects that.

As a state representative, Kurt Daudt has voted for common-sense, pro-life measures including a ban on taxpayer funded abortion and requirements that abortion facilities be licensed and inspected by the state.

When it comes to life issues, we know we can count on Speaker Kurt Daudt. He has stood up for life, and will continue to stand up for life."

Despite Governor Dayton and a DFL Senate, Speaker Daudt and House Republicans successfully passed pro-life legislation this session into law.

*Established the Born Alive Infant Act, which ensures human rights and medical care for infants who survive an abortion procedure and are born.

*Funded the Safe Place for Newborns program, which helps mothers in distress who have hidden their pregnancy and their potentially at-risk newborn.

*Created a tax credit for parents of still-born children for funeral arrangements, medical costs and other expenses incurred, recognizing a child is a child even if it tragically passes away before birth.

Speaker Daudt voted for two additional pro-life measures this session. One measure would have licensed abortion clinics to ensure safety of women who choose to undergo abortion procedures, the other would have limited taxpayer-funded abortions under state-sponsored health plans. Unfortunately, both provisions were blocked by the Senate.
