Violence in Milwaukee caused by Political Abuse

Statement

"The sad events in Milwaukee this weekend are a predictable result of government out of control," says Phil Anderson, Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. "The two parties in control of our government engage in manipulation, division, identity politics. They pit races, genders, economic classes against each other, for their own purposes."

The War on Drugs, since its inception, has resulted in the incarceration of far more blacks than any other group, despite the data showing that drug use across racial demographics is proportionally even. The War on Poverty, since its inception, has resulted in a decrease in wealth, employment, educational achievement, and two-parent families, among the African-American community. The militarization of police forces, including the addition of armored vehicles and other military equipment and weapons, has coincided with an increase in violence between police and groups of citizens.

"When people, especially people already oppressed by the government, see their police departments becoming more like the military, it begs the question: who is the enemy?", continues Anderson. "Why should people of color have faith in the police, in the government, or in either big political party? I think people have awakened to the standard strategy of divisive pandering employed by Democrats and Republicans. It's time for politics that represent everyone fairly, without manipulation, without identity politics, without picking winners and losers for political gain."
