Issue Position: Creating Jobs

Issue Position

Iowans have endured the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Unemployment rates are at an all-time high. Many families are struggling just to make it and have little hope for what the future will bring.

Like many Iowans, I have worked at a number of jobs throughout the course of my life. From a production line in the automotive industry to framing houses to pay my way through college, from being a crane operator on a heavy highway construction crew to driving a big rig, I've done a little of everything.

I understand the value of hard work, and know Iowans to have the strongest work ethic of anyone. I will work to create jobs at every level, from administrative work to manufacturing jobs to high-tech, renewable energy jobs. I work with small business owners every day. I know the small businesses on main streets in small towns are the backbone of our economy. I will work diligently to reduce burdensome regulations and to cut red tape so Iowa's small businesses can once again grow and create jobs.

I will work to expand wind, biomass, ethanol, biodiesel, and other forms of renewable energy to spur economic development and to decrease our dependence on foreign oil.

I come from a family of teachers, nurses, farmers, and coal miners. My parents and grandparents taught me the value of a good education, hard work, and service to my community. I'd like to bring those same values to work for you as we rebuild Iowa's economy.
