Reid Statement On NV Energy Request To Close Nevada Coal Plant Ahead Of Planned Retirement

Statement

Date: Aug. 15, 2016
Location: Las Vegas, NV

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement after NV Energy announced they are seeking an earlier closure of the Reid Garner coal plant:

"The Reid Gardner coal plant will soon be part of Nevada's past. For decades this dirty relic spewed filth into Nevada's pristine air, sickening the neighboring Moapa Band of Paiutes. This plant should have been retired long ago and I am pleased that this process will be sped up, pending approval from the Public Utilities Commission. Nevada's present and future is renewable energy, especially solar and geothermal. The state and utility should be doing everything they can to bring more commercial and residential solar to the market. I will continue to speak out against efforts to impede renewable energy deployment so Nevada will benefit even more from the tremendous economic and job growth potential presented by clean energy."
