Obama Administration Issues Climate Change Directive

Statement

Date: Aug. 3, 2016

This week the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) asked all federal agencies to consider climate change when reviewing actions and projects such as infrastructure improvement.

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., joined other members of the Wyoming delegation in criticizing what he believes is another layer of complexity and bureaucracy added to much needed projects around the country.

"This Administration is known for prioritizing its own ideology over that which is practical and necessary to improve the economy and add jobs. This climate change directive from the White House Council on Environmental Quality is another example," Enzi said. "There are still two other branches of government in this country. I hope that both will take steps to stop yet another attempt by this Administration to endear itself to environmental special interests and select industries at the expense of states, local governments, businesses and the men and women seeking to complete projects that will make all our lives better."

The guidance issued by the White House is not law and some are questioning the legal authority of the council to issue such a policy directive because its acting head has not been confirmed by the Senate.
