Driskell Response to President's Announced Travel to Flint

Statement

Date: April 27, 2016
Location: Saline, MI

In response to President Barack Obama's announcement that he will visit Flint to discuss the recent water crisis, State Rep. Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline), candidate for Congress in Michigan's 7th District, issued the following statement:

"As elected officials, we have a responsibility to ensure the health and safety of the people we are privileged to represent, and I'm glad the President is demonstrating a willingness to take responsibility for the multiple failures of government we witnessed in Flint. Unfortunately Congressman Walberg does not share that sense of responsibility, even telling his constituents that "government cannot protect us against everything' and people need to "look out for themselves.' I reject that abdication of responsibility and pledge to always place the health and safety of the people of Michigan's 7th District first above all."
