Issue Position

Dr. Charles Boustany is a fierce ally of farmers and fishermen across Louisiana. He supports initiatives providing assistance to our agriculture community during difficult times, expanding market access for Louisiana products, and bringing stability to our rural communities. Protecting our natural resources is crucial to our survival and economic well-being.

Serving on the Agriculture Committee, Dr. Boustany helped write the 2008 Farm Bill that supported the continued success of important Louisiana products like rice, sugar, soybeans, cotton, and livestock. In 2014, he proudly supported a reform-minded, fiscally responsible Farm Bill even when many of his colleagues sought to kill it without offering viable alternatives. The Louisiana agriculture industry is too important to play political games.

Additionally, one of our most coveted natural resources has come under attack. Louisiana's seafood industry has for years been undercut by foreign entities importing illegally dumped goods. These goods distorted our markets and made it harder for Louisiana producers to sell our product in our own country. That's why Dr. Boustany authored the PROTECT Act, which stops these illegal products at the border. It's simple -- we want to stop illegal immigrants from entering the country, and we should want to keep illegal products out, too. Now that the PROTECT Act has become law, our seafood industry has a fair shot to compete.

As our next Senator, Dr. Charles Boustany will continue to drive policies to protect our industries from the unregulated infiltration of foreign entities that are killing American businesses and jobs.
