Catherine Cortez Masto on Astrid Silva's Address at the Democratic National Convention

Statement

Date: July 25, 2016
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Issues: Immigration

Former Nevada Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on Nevada immigration activist Astrid Silva's remarks today at the Democratic National Convention:

"Astrid Silva reminded us tonight of what makes Nevada great: our incredible, growing diversity and that we are stronger when we work together. Astrid's story is the story of thousands of families across Nevada and the country that live with the constant fear that at any moment, they could be torn apart. We simply cannot allow this to go on.

"My grandfather immigrated to the United States from Mexico and achieved the American Dream. We need to ensure this is possible for everyone in this country, but unfortunately, Republicans like Donald Trump and my opponent, Congressman Heck, share a backward immigration agenda that would tear immigrant families apart.

"Astrid's remarks were a reminder of what is at stake in this year's election. We must elect candidates who are committed to passing comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together, not anti-immigrant politicians like Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Congressman Heck whose policies would tear families apart and keep millions of undocumented immigrants in the shadows."
