Isakson Slams Democrats for Blocking Funding for Our Troops

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked a vote on the Defense Appropriations Act, which would provide funding for the Department of Defense and strengthen our military's ability to fight growing global security threats:

"It is unconscionable that Senate Democrats would put politics before our troops and our national security," said Isakson. "With the growing threat of ISIL in the Middle East and around the world, we cannot put our safety at risk by failing to fund those who are protecting it. President Obama announced just last week that we would be sending more troops to Afghanistan, and now Senate Democrats want to jeopardize their funding. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to put politics aside so that our troops can receive the funding they need."

The Defense Appropriations Act supports the Department of Defense's ability to combat ISIL while adhering to the bipartisan budget deal that Democrats have previously agreed to. It includes funding for key military assets and manufacturing in Georgia, such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II, Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS), Ohio Class Submarine replacement program, National Guard and Reserve equipment and the Rocket Engine program.
