Bennett Statement On SCOTUS Immigration Decision

Statement

Date: June 23, 2016
Location: McLean, VA
Issues: Immigration

Today, LuAnn Bennett, the Democratic candidate for Congress in Virginia's 10th District, released the following statement regarding the US Supreme Court's 4-4 ruling in the case US v Texas regarding immigration:

"While I am disappointed in today's ruling, one thing is certain: Congress must come together to pass comprehensive immigration reform. This issue affects so many of our families right here in Northern Virginia. We're lucky to live in such a diverse community and we must do everything we can under the law to keep families together.

"Donald Trump wants to build a wall on our southern border. My opponent, Congresswoman Comstock, wants to track immigrants like FedEx packages. These proposals are wrong, they are out of touch, and they don't even begin to deal with solving the immigration issue.

"I will go to Congress and roll up my sleeves to work in a bipartisan way to pass real comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together.

"Finally, the spilt decision by the Supreme Court underscores the need for Congress to do its job and act immediately on President Obama's nomination of Judge Garland to fill the vacancy. If it were up to Congresswoman Comstock, the seat would be left vacant for President Donald Trump to fill."
