Freedom Caucus Applauds Fleming/Huelskamp IRS Impeachment Resolution

Statement

Date: July 13, 2016
Location: Lima, OH

Reps. John Fleming (R-LA) and Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) introduced a resolution of impeachment of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner John Koskinen. The Freedom Caucus released the following statement in support of the resolution:

"The Freedom Caucus strongly supports Rep. Fleming and Rep. Huelskamp in their effort to impeach the IRS Commissioner for gross negligence, dereliction of duty, and violating the public trust. For too long, the American people have waited for Commissioner Koskinen to be held accountable.

Koskinen stonewalled and impeded congressional investigations into the IRS targeting of conservative organizations. He disregarded two subpoenas and three preservation orders and under his watch allowed 422 backup tapes containing as many as 24,000 emails relevant to the investigation to be destroyed.

There's a widespread belief that there are two standards in this country: one for the powerful and politically connected and another for "we the people." No private citizen could get away with what the IRS did. We believe Commissioner Koskinen should not be able to either.

The Freedom Caucus calls for the Fleming/ Huelskamp resolution of impeachment to be voted on in the House of Representatives to restore the public's trust."
