Rep. Jenkins Helps Secure $4M For Workforce West Virginia

Press Release

Date: June 7, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) worked closely with the U.S. Labor Department to secure more than $4 million for WorkForce West Virginia to retrain displaced coal miners.

The $4,318,182 National Dislocated Worker Grant will allow WorkForce West Virginia to continue to retrain 1,700 people already enrolled and expand its offerings to about 300 additional dislocated workers. This grant will also build on previously awarded grants, bringing funds awarded to date to $15,046,460.

"West Virginia's coal miners want to work, and dislocated miners need opportunities to learn new skills and prepare for new careers. WorkForce West Virginia's programs are critical to dislocated miners throughout West Virginia -- without this funding, nearly 2,000 West Virginians would lose access to career retraining. We must prepare workers for new fields, diversify our economy, and create new opportunities for West Virginians in West Virginia, and I will continue to work to provide WorkForce West Virginia with much-needed funding," Rep. Jenkins said.
