Stop the Ivory Trade!

Statement

Issues: Foreign Affairs

I find the ivory trade completely repulsive.

Each year, over 30,000 elephants are killed by poachers -- that's one elephant murdered every 15 minutes. And for what? So that wealthy collectors can buy jewelry and luxury goods made from elephant tusks. We've got to take action to end this bloodshed and protect these beautiful animals.

Join me in saving the elephants: Sign this petition and tell Congress to put an end to the ivory trade!

As a result of the ivory trade, more than half of African elephants were killed off in the span of a decade. Poachers and ivory smugglers make millions off the killing of elephants and these proceeds are a major source of revenue for organized criminals and terrorist groups abroad. These animals are being slaughtered to finance brutal attacks against civilians -- and I just can't look the other way.

That's why I introduced legislation to put an end to the ivory trade: the TUSKER Act. This bill aims to end the ivory trade by imposing tough economic sanctions on countries that tolerate it. Join me in putting an end to the ivory trade: Add your name and tell Congress to pass the TUSKER Act!
