Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) applauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to strengthen ties between the United States and India during a speech before a joint session of Congress. Pallone, a co-founder of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, served on the escort committee that led Modi into the House chamber.

"As the representative of one of the largest Indian-American constituencies in the country and a co- founder of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, I am especially glad to welcome Prime Minister Modi to Congress and am pleased to see the bipartisan support for strengthening the relationship between our nations," said Congressman Pallone. "I appreciate his commitment to the bond between our countries through economic initiatives, defense and security partnerships and in combatting climate change."

In 2014 Pallone joined a letter requesting that Congressional leadership invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address a Joint Session of Congress. Last month, Speaker Ryan invited Modi to visit the Capitol. Mr. Modi will be the fifth Prime Minister of India to address a joint meeting of Congress, and the first since 2005.
