Schakowsky Statement on Reported ICE Raids

Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after reports suggested that a new round of raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were set to begin:

"I am deeply disturbed at reports of an upcoming month-long series of raids directed against young mothers and children who have come to the United States as refugees fleeing horrific violence in Central America. If those reports are true, once again, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would terrorize our communities and rip apart families. These planned raids are counter-productive and would only further exacerbate the problems with our immigration system. We've heard that the reported raids are making families worried about leaving their homes and sending their children to school. Deporting women and children is wrong and must stop immediately."
