Issue Position

Steve has tremendous respect for Alaska's Native peoples and their rich cultural heritage. He is strongly committed to protecting subsistence rights, honoring tribal self-determination, and supporting rural economic opportunities. He respects government-to-government relationships with Alaska Native tribes and supports positive partnerships between tribes and ANCs.

Steve will fight for increased and meaningful tribal involvement in natural resource management and push for more scientific research and resources to monitor and maintain our world-class salmon fisheries that are vital to subsistence users. He will support infrastructure investments in broadband, and in renewable energies that allow rural communities to cut fuel costs. Steve will also work to make sure rural and Native voters have fair access to voting, and will work to provide more tools to Native communities to combat drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and child neglect.
