Rep. Loretta Sanchez Fights For Immigrant Families

Statement

Date: April 20, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Yesterday, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46), co-chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus's Immigration Task Force, spoke on the House Floor to advocate for the millions of immigrant families whose lives hang in the balance as the Supreme Court considers U.S. v. Texas. Despite concrete legal precedent, the case is challenging the constitutional authority of President Obama's executive actions on immigration, the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA).

"I challenge anyone to look at the children protesting in front of the Supreme Court on Monday, and not feel an urgency to protect them and their families," said Rep. Sanchez.

"Our unjust and broken immigration system has forced millions of families into the shadows," continued Rep. Sanchez.

"Where is our compassion?" asked Rep. Sanchez. "Immigrants, regardless of legal status, deserve justice and dignity."

Congresswoman Sanchez strongly supports the expanded DACA and DAPA which enforce sensible priorities and have strong legal precedent on their side. Rep. Sanchez hopes the Supreme Court will reject Texas state officials' harmful politically motivated challenge, which could affect millions of citizens and non-citizens, many of whom are Latino.
