Curbelo Cosponsors Bipartisan Bill to Help Venezuelans

Statement

Date: April 29, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-27) introduced H.R. 5134, a bipartisan bill to increase the President's ability to sanction Maduro regime officials who abuse the human rights of Venezuelans. Senator Marco Rubio (FL) introduced the same legislation in the Senate yesterday.

"I am proud to join Rep. Ros-Lehtinen and Sen. Rubio's efforts to help Venezuelans who are victims of the abuses of the Maduro regime. Maduro and his thugs continuously illustrate their gross disrespect for human rights through their torturous tactics and promotion of violence against their own people. The people of Venezuela deserve better than to be governed by a regime riddled with corruption that persecutes anyone who voices disagreement. I urge the President to use his authority to ensure justice be swiftly brought to Venezuela."
