Carolyn Maloney has consistently fought to keep New York safe from the threat of gun violence. Too many innocent Americans are killed by guns each year, by accident or otherwise. Carolyn has never faltered in her fight for the victims of this needless violence, and has worked tirelessly throughout her career to push for legislation that enhanced gun safety and keeps guns out of the hands of those who wish to cause others harm. She's authored five strong gun safety bills and is fighting hard for universal background checks, banning assault weapons, prohibiting massacre magazines and banning people on the terrorist watch list from buying a gun.
Maloney-authored bills include:

The Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, comprehensive legislation to require background checks on all gun sales at gun shows and increase the reporting and inspection standards for these events.

The Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2015,which would boost penalties for straw purchasers and give prosecutors tools to go after trafficking rings that bring illegal guns to our cities.

The Handgun Trigger Safety Act of 2015, which would require all handguns to use "smart gun" technology. Development of this technology is critical to prevent accidental gun deaths and promote responsible gun ownership.

The Firearm Risk Protection Act, which would require gun buyers to have liability insurance coverage before being allowed to purchase a weapon. We have to have insurance to drive a car or own a home, we should require insurance to own a gun as well.

Rep Maloney has authored a bill, at long last, allow our federal researchers at the Centers for Disease Control to conduct or support research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention. For more than decades, Congress has prohibited the federal government from evening studying the issue of gun violence.
