Inhofe Statement on Obama Administration's Latest Payout to Iran

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement regarding news that the Obama administration intends to purchase 32 tons of heavy water from Iran at the cost of $8.6 million in order to help the country comply with the Iran Nuclear Deal:
"Iran's failure to comply with the deal made by the Obama administration to reduce Iran's nuclear stock pile is not surprising. Nor is it surprising that the Obama administration intends to purchase 32 tons of heavy water from Iran to help the country meet its end of the bargain. Americans continue to lose in this bad deal, while Iran gains another $8.6 million of American taxpayer dollars. This only adds to the release of over $100 billion to Iran through the easing of sanctions while failing to provide a sure method to monitor and verify all Iranian nuclear operations. Americans have a right to be outraged as their money is being used to support the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism. As Sec. John Kerry has admitted, American taxpayer money "will end up in the hands of the IRGC or other entities, some of which are labeled terrorists." Just this week, State Department spokesman John Kirby said there is no way to verify money sent to Iran as part of the nuclear agreement doesn't fund the country's global terrorism activities. The only way to not fund terrorism is to not negotiate with terrorists, which is exactly what the Obama administration did when it evaded the Constitution's requirement of Senate involvement with major international treaties and entered into a so-called "deal' with Iran. In the meantime, Iran continues its defiant, belligerent actions to include testing medium range rockets in violation of the UN Security Council Resolution of 1929, firing multiple rockets within a mile of the U.S.S. Harry Truman, and building a memorial for capturing and detaining U.S. Sailors earlier this year. We should not be rewarding bad behavior, which is exactly what the Obama administration is doing with the $8.6 million transaction with Iran."
