Marchant Statement on Speaker Election

Statement

Date: Oct. 29, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

The House today voted to elect U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan as its Speaker. U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following statement regarding the election:

"I supported Paul Ryan for Speaker today because he was the most conservative candidate. The House needs a leader with an accomplished legislative track record and strong conservative convictions. Having worked closely with Mr. Ryan on the Ways and Means Committee, I have witnessed his commitment to repealing Obamacare, simplifying our broken tax code, and reining-in the size of the federal government. These are major priorities for my constituents and central pillars of a conservative agenda that will move our country forward.

"With today's vote, Paul Ryan becomes the most conservative Speaker of the House in recent history. He has also committed to making the legislative process more inclusive, transparent, and accountable. This type of conservative leadership is what's needed to unite House Republicans behind an agenda focused on limited government and economic growth. I look forward to working with Speaker Ryan as I continue fighting for conservative priorities and, most importantly, the people of Texas' 24th District."
