Protecting Life, 43 Years After Roe v. Wade

Today, thousands of people are joining together on the National Mall. Though they hail from all over the country, they are bound together by a common cause: to protect the lives of the most vulnerable. This year, they had every excuse to stay at home, with dire warnings of an unprecedented winter storm approaching. Yet they are marching, undeterred and undaunted, to lend their voices to those who cannot speak for themselves.

On the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we remember the 57 million defenseless lives lost as a result of the Supreme Court's ruling, and the millions more who have been deeply hurt. Roe v. Wade has irreparably damaged our nation for generations and will continue to do so until it is reversed.

The March for Life -- our nation's largest annual peaceful protest - demonstrates that there is hope for an America in which every life is valued and defended.

That is why we march.

We march because unborn children who feel pain should be protected. We march because we should not be subsidizing life-ending organizations when there are thousands of other comprehensive health care centers for women that need our support. The House has acted on both these issues -- passing protections for unborn children after 20 weeks and voting to stop federal funds from going to Planned Parenthood, while increasing funding for other health care centers. But there is still much more for us to do.

And so we march -- to give a voice to the voiceless, to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves, and to protect our nation's future.
