Issues: Infrastructure

Congressman Kevin Cramer announced today the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 611, the Grassroots Rural and Small Community Water Systems Act. The bill reauthorizes the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) program, which provides technical assistance to small public water systems through 2020. In addition, it will maintain the current annual authorization of $15 million including three percent for technical assistance to public water systems owned or operated by Indian Tribes.

"Rural communities across North Dakota work tirelessly to ensure their citizens have access to safe and reliable drinking water," said Cramer. "Unfortunately, complying with the EPA's regulations is beyond the capacity of many small rural water districts. This bill ensures small rural water systems have access to the resources and support they need to maintain and manage our nation's rural water systems."

The Senate unanimously passed the bill on June 9. It now goes to the President for his signature.
