Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) today praised the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) long-awaited proposed rule to improve small airplane certification standards. In 2013, Congress passed Pompeo's bill, the Small Airplane Revitalization Act, which required the FAA to submit such a proposal to cut regulations on the general aviation industry, while improving safety, decreasing costs, and enabling private-sector innovation.
"This proposal is great news for general aviation across our country, especially in South Central Kansas and Wichita -- the "Air Capital of the World,'" Pompeo said. "By reforming and modernizing regulations, small airplane manufacturers will be able to do what they do best: build planes and get them in the air. This common sense approach will help Kansas families and create jobs, make planes safer, and lower costs. I urge the FAA to act effectively, meaningfully so that a final rule may be issued and implemented by the end of the year."
