Issue Position

Providing for our national defense is one of the primary responsibilities of Congress according to the Constitution (Article 1.8). Protecting our freedom, securing our borders and maintaining a strong Armed Forces must always be a top priority.
Having served in our military and having two sons who have served in active duty overseas, I am well aware of our responsibility to provide the best support possible to our military personnel so that they can carry out their mission with honor and success. There is no second place winner in a gunfight.
It is wrong to assume that every military dollar is well-spent. We must reduce government waste without undermining our commitment to our troops and veterans.
We must stay ahead of the curve in regards to cyber-attacks, acts of terrorism, illegal immigration and other potential threats.
We must remember that a strong economy is the source of our ability to maintain a strong defense.
We must not compromise our commitment to personal freedom in our efforts to maintain our national security.
