Issue Position

As a medical doctor and surgeon, I have spent my life caring for the physical needs of tens of thousands of patients. Each human being must be cared for as a sacred trust.
The personhood of the unborn child assures his or her right to life, as established in the 14th amendment of our Constitution: "No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without the due process of law." Abortion lies in direct opposition to this fundamental principle.
Even the ancients understood this, as Hippocrates stated, "I will take care that they suffer no hurt or damage… Moreover, I will give no sort of medicine to any pregnant woman, with a view to destroy the child."
Despite several existing prohibitions, some organizations that perform abortions still receive federal funding. Taxpayer dollars should not be used to pay for abortion. The life of the unborn child is sacred. It is the clear role of government to protect that life.
