Location: Washington, DC

Today, Vice Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) hosted constituent and small business owner, Jami Wade of Jefferson City, to testify during a hearing titled, "The EMV Deadline and What it Means for Small Businesses."

On October 1, the nationwide transition from magnetic stripe cards to upgraded Europay, Mastercard, VISA (EMV) chip payment systems began to take effect for our country's small businesses. The upgraded technology is intended to protect against cybercrime and fraud.

"I was very pleased to have the opportunity to host Jami Wade, the owner of a small business in Jefferson City during today's House Small Business Committee hearing. After hearing Ms. Wade's story and learning more about the work she has accomplished in the small business community, it is clear that her restaurant, Capitol City CORK and Provisions, exemplifies what is great about America's small businesses. Ms. Wade said it best in her testimony when she stressed that switching to EMV payment terminals serves as paying a small premium for an insurance policy to protect her restaurant against a potentially significant downside. I want to applaud Ms. Wade for taking the time to share her knowledge and to shed light on the importance of upgrading EMV payment terminals that are relied upon by our nation's small businesses."
