Pryce: Each Day of Debate on Energy Plan is One Day Too Long for American People
WASHINGTON June 14
House Republican Conference Chairman Deborah Pryce (R-OH) today issued the following statement as the Senate began debate on S.10, the Energy Policy Act of 2005:
"As the Senate begins debate today on a national energy plan, I urge Senate Democrats to finally make the right choice for America-to abandon an agenda of obstruction for a strategy of solutions."
"Each day that debate lingers on this energy plan is a day too long for the American people. For four years, Americans have waited on Congress to deliver a plan that speaks to their energy needs-a plan that promotes conservation, encourages exploration and secures a stable energy supply for future generations. And for four years, the House has successfully passed an energy plan that meets those needs-only to see Senate Democrats obstruct our efforts and flip the switch on progress."
"This year-perhaps only after personally shelling out nearly $3 for a gallon of gasoline or feeling the heat of frustrated constituents-Senate Democrats have finally indicated their willingness to pass a bill that will prevent future spikes in gas prices and secure America's energy future. Let's hope this willingness translates into swift passage so Americans across the country can begin to reap the benefits of a common-sense, solution-geared energy plan that has been kept in the dark for too long."
