Last night, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined Senators Deb Fischer (R-NE), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) to introduce S. 2553, The Kari's Law Act, which amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require multiline telephone systems, common in hotels and offices, to have the ability to directly dial 911 without locating an outside line first:

"The grief and agony this family and their community have undergone is unimaginable, and we have an obligation to stop something like this from happening again," said Sen. Cornyn. "By making this simple change we can ensure law enforcement and emergency personnel are easier to reach, saving valuable time that could be the difference in preventing another tragedy."
