Brown Connects Seneca County Senior to The Veterans History Project

Press Release

Date: Sept. 22, 2015
Location: Washington D.C.

As part of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown's (D-OH) efforts to connect Ohio veterans to the Library of Congress' Veteran's History Project, Seneca County resident Alice Miller was interviewed about her experiences serving during World War II at Birchard Public Library in Fremont today. Miller served on a hospital ship in Okinawa during the war. The Library of Congress' Veterans History Project aims to collect and preserve personal accounts of American war veterans for future generations.

"Alice Miller made an invaluable contribution to the United States' effort during World War II and I thank her for her service," said Brown, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. "Her participation in the Veterans History Project, along with the help of Birchard Public Library, will ensure that her remarkable story will never be forgotten."

Brown continues to advocate for Ohio veterans. Last week, Brown outlined legislation to improve programs for homeless veterans and their families. Joined by Susan Wren, Support Services Specialist at WSOS Community Action Commission in Fremont, Brown discussed how the Veteran Housing Stability Act of 2015 would increase veterans' access to permanent housing options. According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, about 12 percent of the adult homeless population is comprised of veterans.

Interested United States war veterans seeking assistance in participating in the Veterans History Project can contact Brown's Cleveland office toll-free at 888-896-6446. Submission kits can also be found on the Library of Congress website at http://www.loc.gov/vets/kit.html.
