Gov. Sanford Praises House for Passing .08 Legislation

BILL A "HUGE STEP" TOWARD
SAFER SC ROADS

Governor Mark Sanford today commended the South Carolina House of Representatives for passing tougher DUI legislation. Yesterday, the House passed a bill sponsored by Rep. Gilham that lowers the state's DUI blood alcohol level from .10 to .08 percent, bringing South Carolina in compliance with federal highway safety regulations and making our state eligible for millions of dollars in federal funds.

"I'd like to commend the Speaker, Rep. Gilham and the House for passing this legislation," Gov. Sanford said. "We've got the deadliest roads in the nation as far as our DUI death rate is concerned and this bill would be a huge step toward fixing that problem. As I said throughout our campaign and again in my State of the State address, this is something we've pushed for and will continue to push for as the legislative process moves forward."
