Issue Position: Small Business

Issue Position

Small business is the backbone of our economy. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), small businesses make up the vast majority of U.S. employer firms and are responsible for two-thirds of new private sector jobs. As a result, it's incumbent on elected officials to help small businesses, and our economy grow by eliminating onerous regulations, doing away with needlessly burdensome government red tape, and lowering the tax burden passed on to hard-working Wisconsinites. As a recipient of the National Federation of Independent Businesses' "Guardian of Small Business Award," my aim is to ensure that entrepreneurs can thrive for years to come in Wisconsin.

The House has passed legislation to rein in government red tape and reform the regulatory process by requiring rule-making agencies to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of how regulations would impact small businesses and affect our economy. Additionally, House Republicans have spear-headed efforts to permanently expand and extend important tax credits so small business proprietors have more money to invest and grow their companies.

Job creators also need access to capital, but with our economy still fragile, small businesses face an uphill battle. To help aid capital formation, I have also supported legislative initiatives to provide new opportunities for capital formation and voted in favor of the Republican House budget that would reduce uncertainty by paying down our debt and ending out-of-control spending.
