DelBene Supports Bipartisan Sentencing Reform Bill

Statement

Date: Nov. 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) voted to advance bipartisan legislation out of the House Judiciary Committee. DelBene cosponsored the Sentencing Reform Act (H.R. 3713), which reduces mandatory minimums for drug offenses, reduces the three-strike mandatory life sentence to 25 years and provides judges with greater discretion in determining appropriate sentences.

"Locking people up for decades isn't always the best solution. Today, too many people are sent to prison for far too long when there are better ways to help get someone's life back on track," DelBene said. "Sentencing reform will not only bring fairness to our judicial system -- it will make a real difference in thousands of lives."
