Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington), State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Clarkstown), New York State Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) and local stakeholders called on New York State to position itself as the center of Alzheimer's research through the creation of a bonding initiative that would fund research, create jobs, and give hope to the 5.3 million Americans currently living with the disease. Even though Alzheimer's is the costliest chronic disease in the United States, federal investments in research are failing to keep pace with the scope of the disease. Rep. Israel, Sen. Carlucci and Assemblyman Lavine proposed a state initiative that will position New York State as a national leader in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

"Aside from the emotional and physical toll that Alzheimer's places on caregivers, the financial cost of the disease has never been higher," said Rep. Steve Israel. "With the cost of Alzheimer's to our country expected to skyrocket, this bonding initiative will make New York a national leader in funding robust research to end this devastating disease."
