U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee announced it will consider the nomination of Roberta Jacobson to be U.S. Ambassador to Mexico next week:

"As the United States and Mexico become increasingly interconnected, our Ambassador serves as a critical nexus between our two nations on issues like trade, immigration, and security. Today's action is a key step towards filling what is a crucial diplomatic post not just to Texas, but for the nation as a whole."
