Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of a measure that allows for more efficient development of minerals and mineral materials critical to United States economic and national security and to manufacturing competitiveness:

"House Republicans are committed to legislation that makes government more efficient, creates jobs and promotes private sector investment. Throughout the past 25 years, the nation's reliance on foreign minerals from countries like China has significantly increased due in large part to government regulation and red tape that have delayed mining activities. The United States contains $6.2 trillion of untapped mineral resources, providing vast opportunity to increase our supply of these critical resources at home, boosting our national economic security. This important piece of legislation streamlines permitting processes and instills environmental safeguards to ensure that an abundance of resources can be brought to the marketplace."
