Vitter: Permanent Lake Charles VA Clinic Coming Soon

Press Release

Date: Sept. 28, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has awarded a lease contract for the community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Lake Charles, La.

"Our Louisiana veterans have waited a long, long time to have efficient access to effective health care, and they deserve much better than what's been handed to them, which is why I am delighted to announce that the VA has finally committed to a Lake Charles location," said Vitter. "For those who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, the least I can do is continue pushing the VA to move as quickly as possible to open the doors of this permanent medical clinic in southwest Louisiana."

Vitter has been working to authorize new VA clinics throughout Louisiana and has worked with Rep. Charles Boustany, Jr. MD (R-La.) to build interim clinics in southwest Louisiana. Earlier this month, Vitter announced that the VA made a significant step forward in opening the interim medical clinic in Lake Charles. In June 2014, Vitter successfully included authorization for VA clinics, including ones in Lake Charles and Lafayette, in the final veterans' health care reform bill.
