U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today issued the following statement regarding a ruling by a panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that temporarily halts the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from implementing its controversial "waters of the United States" rule.

"It's quite simple: The "waters of the United States' rule is a bad policy that the Obama EPA is using to grab unprecedented and inappropriate authority over private property, small businesses, and local governments. Today's ruling marks an important step in protecting the rights of private property owners as Congress continues to work on a legislative fix," said Vitter.
