Reed Blasts Chinese Government for Devaluing Currency

Press Release

Date: Aug. 12, 2015

Tom Reed is blasting the Chinese government for devaluing it currency, calling it a "direct threat" to American manufacturing jobs. "China's malicious manipulation of its currency threatens American manufacturers," said Reed. "Anyone who cares about American jobs knows that we must protect our manufacturers and workers. I will continue to stand with them by fighting against these aggressive Chinese actions."

The move by China will artificially lower the cost of Chinese goods below market value, making it more difficult for American goods to be sold in markets around the world. "It is this kind of manipulation that creates an unfair playing field -- that is why we need fair trade policies that punish nations that engage in this type of unfair behavior," said Reed.

Reed vowed to make protecting American jobs from foreign currency manipulation a priority as trade policy discussions advance in Washington. "American workers are second to none," Reed declared. "We win every time on a level playing field; we're not going to let China tilt that field without a fight."
