Pompeo Responds to Clinton's Remarks about Benghazi Committee

Statement

Date: Oct. 5, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) today responded to comments made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the work of the Select Committee on Benghazi, of which Pompeo is a member. At a town hall this morning, Clinton falsely claimed that the committee was created to make the deaths of four Americans a "partisan political issue."

"Despite what Clinton says, this committee has never been about politics. Our work has always been about transparency and getting every single available fact related to the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, so that we can ensure that nothing like this ever happens again," Pompeo said. "Clinton complains about the length of our investigation, but it is her own home-brew server and failure to turn over critical evidence that are among the primary causes of that delay. The Clinton campaign has used campaign emails and resources to try to obscure what caused the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. The truth is that our committee is committed to obtaining all of the facts so that we can learn the truth about what happened in Benghazi on that night of September 11, 2012. Clinton needs to give up her political agenda and start helping us get those facts so that we can complete our work, provide answers to the American people, and help to ensure the protection of American diplomats and service members around the world."
