Rokita Statement On The Iran Nuclear Deal

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Rep. Rokita (IN-04) issued the following statement after the House refused to pass President Obama's Iran Deal:

"Throughout my travels in the Fourth District last month, the issue I heard about the most was Iran. Hoosiers overwhelmingly oppose this dangerous deal and President Obama has lost this debate with the American people. The vote today in the House represents the unified voice of the American people rejecting this reckless agreement.

"The President claims that rejecting this deal will bring war, but I believe accepting this deal will cause war for two reasons. First, this deal causes $150 billion to flow into the world's largest sponsor of terror. I highly doubt that the Iranian people will benefit from these funds. Instead, the Iranian regime will try to carry out what they have been chanting, "Death to Israel' and "Death to America'. Second, this deal triggers a Mideast arms race and ultimately makes the world a more dangerous place," said Rep. Rokita.

Representative Rokita voted "no' on H.R. 3461, a bill that would have approved President Obama's Iran Deal and "yes' on H.R. 3460, a bill that suspends the President's authority to lift sanctions under the Iran nuclear agreement. H.R. 3461 failed 162-269 with one "present' vote. H.R. 3460 passed 247 - 186.
