Ranking Member Thompson Announces Support for Iran Nuclear Agreement

Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement announcing the support of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between the P5+1 nations and Iran:

"Following thorough consideration, I have decided that I will support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action made with Iran. Although not perfect, the agreement will improve the security of our country and our allies and will curb Iran's nuclear program for the long term. This is a national security issue of utmost important, and we should not submit to scare tactics or political grandstanding. I believe, with confidence, that this is a good deal. Because of this, I will be voting against legislation today that would try to undo it."
